Basement Waterproofing in Saskatoon

Water in the basement after a storm or spring melt? Find the source and fix it for good. Saskatoon and area.

Saskatoon basements and water

Heavy summer storms and fast spring melts push water against foundations and can overload sewers.

Big storms

Severe rain in 2005 and 2007 caused wastewater overflows and flooded basements across parts of the city.

Two sewer systems

Saskatoon runs separate storm and sanitary sewers. When either is overwhelmed, water finds the low spot: your basement.

Old weeping tile

Original drainage on older homes clogs and collapses, leaving water against the wall.

Find where the water is coming from first, then fix that. No guessing.

Interior weeping tile

Drainage channel around the inside of the basement, piped to a sump. Good when digging outside isn't practical.

Exterior waterproofing

Excavate, clean, repair and membrane the outside of the wall, then new weeping tile and backfill.

Sump pits and pumps

New sump pits, pump replacements and battery backup pumps for power outages.

Backwater valves

Valve on the main sewer line so city sewer can't back up into your basement.

Crack injection

Leaking wall cracks sealed from the inside.

Grading and downspouts

Slope and downspout fixes that move water away from the house for less money.

Cheap fixes first

The City of Saskatoon recommends extending downspouts at least six feet from the house, keeping eavestroughs clean and sloping the ground away from the walls. Sometimes that's all it takes. If it isn't, the next step is drainage, a sump or a backwater valve.

Saskatoon basement waterproofing FAQ

I had a sewer backup. What now?

Clean up safely, call your insurer, then look at a backwater valve so it doesn't happen again.

Interior or exterior waterproofing?

Exterior stops water at the wall and is the most complete fix. Interior systems catch water that gets in and pump it out, and cost less. The inspection tells you which fits.

Do I need a backwater valve?

If your basement is finished or you've had a backup before, it's cheap insurance. Many insurers ask about it.

Will insurance cover it?

Sewer backup coverage is often an add-on. Seepage from groundwater usually isn't covered. Check your policy.

Can I just fix the grading?

Sometimes. Extending downspouts and building up the slope solves a lot of minor seepage for very little money.
